The Etna, a' muntagna, which means THE VERY MOUNTAIN as Sicilians are used to call it, is the European highest active volcano and one of the biggest of the world.
In Sicilian dialect Etna is called Mongibello. This name derives from the fusion of two words: The first is latin, mons and the second is arab, gibel. Both mean MOUNTAIN. Again, in the Sicilian dialect Etna is defined as THE mountain par excellence.
